When is “free day”?
“Free day” at the Brooke County Sanitary Landfill on the last business day of the month.  For more information call 304-748-0014.

Does the Brooke County Recycling Center (BCRC) pay for recyclables?
No, the BCRC does not pay private citizens or businesses for dropping off materials. All revenue earned from the processing and marketing of recyclable materials is used to provide special recycling events such as: Drop-off Recycling, Ecycling, and Household Hazardous Waste Disposal events.

Yes, the BCRC accepts computer, tv’s, and other covered electronic devices at the BCRC Monday through Friday 8:00a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Please see “Electronics” for a complete list.

How do I dispose of paint/paint cans?
Latex paint
Remove the lid and allow the paint to dry. To speed up the drying process, add cat litter to absorb the paint. Extra drying time may be required if the weather is rainy or humid.
Oil paint
Either paint on a surface or allow to dry or use cat litter to dry the paint in the can. Extra drying time may be required if the weather is rainy or humid.
Paint cans
Once all of the paint is dry, bag up the can and dispose of with regular trash service. Please note that it is illegal for trash haulers to transport liquids so all of the paint must be dry.

How do I dispose of pesticides and chemicals?
Each chemical has its own proper disposal method. For environmentally sound disposal, please contact the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, Pesticides or Waste Division at (304) 368-3960 or (304) 368-3950.

How do I report a litter violation?
Report any violations of the West Virginia Litter Law to local or state law enforcement agencies or call the WV State Litter Hotline:  1-800-322-5530.

Does the Brooke County Recycling Center (BCRC) accept waste tires? 
No, the BCRC does not accept waste tires on a daily basis.  Please call your trash hauler to see if they will accept waste tires with Bulky Goods Day or call all WV DEP (304-368-3950) for more information.  Tires can be held for Tire Amnesty Collections that usually occur in the spring and fall.
